  • Ok, it's been too long since I've been on Xanga. Wow!!! August 4th was my last post. My mailbox is to full to get to all of my email. I've got to do better.

My days are a lot different now. I started my new job on the 11th of August and all is well so far. It has been a big undertaking for me. Even though the hospital is only 3 years old, they lack the technology that I am used to in handling supplies. But I am getting my own system going to keep the OR running smoothly. It was stressful at first without the necessary tools to work with but I am getting through that. My day starts at 4:00am getting up and I am out the door by 5. It takes me about 40 to 45 minutes to get to work and I start at 6:00am. I like that time of day because there is not a lot of traffic on the route I take and on the way home it takes me an hour because of the traffic and school zones. I get home between 3:30 and 4:00. I shower change clothes and get dinner on. I try to be in bed between 8:30 and 9:00 to make sure I get enough rest. I am off every weekend. I have good intentions to blog at least once a week but I haven't been able to get it in. I am trying to adjust to Vegas and on the most part it is a nice city. You never know that the strip is there unless you go down there. In the perimeter around the strip is anytown USA.

I work southwest of the strip and I can see it to my left in the distance to my left as I drive to work. I have been to Fremont Street to see the lights and we went to a restaurant on the strip called Landry's last weekend which was very nice. Usually on the weekend's I am shopping, doing laundry, cleaning and cooking. It is different than my single life was but I love it and appreciate my husband.

I am a little under the weather this weekend. I went to the quick care yesterday. I have a respiratory infection and my blood pressure was wayyyyy up. So I had to have three prescriptions and my husband told me not to do a thing but rest. He did all the laundry, cooked and did the dishes. He even folded the clothes....WOW!!! he hates folding clothes. So I have done nothing but rested and took my meds. I am feeling better today.

So I will try to do better and come around to visit. I really do miss you all and I love you dearly and I keep you in my prayers. Love you

  • It's the beginning of my second week here and all is well. I start work next week so I still have some time to get acclaimated to my surroundings. As far as the heat is concerned, it's hot here but it's a dry hot. Back home it was a humid hot and that was worse. So I do what everybody does here, don't stay in the direct sun if you don't have to and stay hydrated. The norm seems to be that everybody carries water in their car if they have to be out for a while. It's been between 104 and 109 since I've been here. The evenings are really nice and I sit on the patio a lot in the evenings. The mornings are also nice. I've been getting up between 6 and 7 in the mornings and sitting out on the patio and having my morning tea, it's usually in the 80's and breezy. I also have been taking a dip in the pool in the evening. I thought the water would be nice and warm because of the heat but not so...the water was ice cold. Duane put the cover on the pool to warm it up so when I went back in on the weekend it was nice and warm.

But it was really a nice trip out. We left Chattanooga crossed through Georgia and back into Tennessee, Arkansas and Oklahoma. The first day we drove to Oklahoma City and stopped for the night, it is about the halfway mark. Oklahoma was interesting, first of all they had the cheapest gas being as low as 3.55. We passed some small oil wells that were operational but they looked like they were in someones front yard. but what really took my breath away were the windmills. They were awesome!!! There were a few miles of them in various places on I-40. They are hugeeeee!!! They are very graceful looking, white towering wind turbines. They each looked to be 15 or 20 stories high.  Oklahoma apparently uses a lot of wind power. It seems to be a very resourceful energy alternative.

But New Mexico....The Land of Enchantment is totally breathtaking. The land is totally mezmerizing!!!! It is so beautiful. New Mexico was our longest state and it had the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen and when you think you have seen the most beautiful spot up pops another area. Duane and I just hawed and hummed all the way across New Mexico. But there is one draw back to that state.......there are not many stops!!! We never let the tank get less than halfway because the stops were so far apart. Cell towers......nope....unless you come to a little town and you have to use it fast because once you pass the tower you lose the signal again. That day we went got out of Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and stopped short of Flagstaff, Arizona for the night. When we started out the next morning we were less than 300 miles from Vegas which was a breeze compared to 2-11 hour days. The ride through Arizona was beautiful also but not like Mexico. We went across a mountain range coming out of Mexico and 2 coming out of Arizona. We took Hwy 93 into Nevada and had to go up and around across Hoover Dam which the state lines of Arizona and Nevada are on the middle of the bridge. it being a tourist area it took a while to get through there. But once we got through we were home. The map we had was right on, it took about 28 hours driving time.

Duane has been helping me learn the area and how to get to work. We live at the foot of Sunrise Mountain and I have to go all the way across to the other side to work. it's about 20 miles. It would take me 25 minutes if I took the Interstate but I really don't want to deal with that now because of the construction they are doing on it. If I take the city streets it will take me about 40 minutes and for now I can do that. This will not be our permanant place but for now it's good but Duane asked where I would want to live and I told him on the north side which will be closer to my job and his customers also.

Well, I've gotta go for now. I will talk to you later.

  • Well......I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!  I am the new Inventory Control Specialist for Spring Valley Hospital. Yeaaaaaah!!!!! My interview was Monday and I was interviewed by 5 people at once. God is good, I wasn't intimidated the least bit, I answered all of their questions, they answered all of mine. The interview went very well and I felt good when I left. I left at 10:45 and at 1:00pm I got a call from their recruiter offering me the job. I am praising God!!! They started processing me today (Tuesday) with paperwork and a drug test. I will do my physical this week and I will start work Monday the 11th of August which begins with orientation. Get this......, it is Monday-Friday, 8:00am til 5:00pm, no weekends and 7 paid holidays. I have worked in the hospital for the last 25 and 1/2 years and have only had random jobs for short periods with weekends off. My old department was 24/7. God is good. It has very good benefits, the pay is great and it is a 200 bed facility and coming from an 600 bed facility it is a welcomed change.

I have been out most of the day today and sleep is calling me so I'll tell you about my trip here a little later.

    love you

  • Well, I'm home.

It was a very long trip. We left Chattanooga about 9am and we drove to Oklahoma City and spent the night there. We left there about 10:30am and drove to Hobuk,Arizona which is about 94 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona and we spen the night there. We left there this morning drove on to Flagstaff, stopped at the Cracker Barrel and had breakfast, gassed up again and hit the road about 10:30. We got here about 2:00 today.

Thank you for your prayers, we arrived safely, had no car problems, had almost perfect weather except for a 2 minute storm in New Mexico.

    God is awesome!!!

I will tell you about my trip later after I get rested, it was long but it was beautiful. This is my first road trip past Oklahoma.   Love you guys!!

  • Finally!!!! After 2 years I am heading to my new home. We will be leaving this morning and we have a 28 hour drive ahead of us. The car is packed and the POD is already in Vegas. We've said see ya soon to our children, grands and friends and now it's time. It is bittersweet for me and goodbye's are not my thing because we will be a phone call away. My mom and a bus load of some other family members left  Monday for a family reunion in Florida so I got to see lots of my aunts, uncles and cousins last night.

Please pray for traveling mercies for us especially going through Texas because we may run into the remnants of hurricane Dolly.

BTW I have a second interview with Spring Valley Hospital on Monday and they have asked me to bring my most recent TB skin test, he said it would cut 7 days off the process. So that sounds promising to me. Thanks for your prayers and I love you all.

It will take us 3 days so when I get there I will let you all know.
